Showing their support for local veterans, a group of four WealthVest employees competed in a local golf scramble put on by the Vietnam Veterans of America, Southwest Montana Chapter 788 this August.

The WealthVest team competed against dozens of businesses and organizations from across the Gallatin Valley to raise awareness and much-needed funds for local veterans in need and their families. Currently, Montana is home to the second-highest number of veterans per capita in the United States, with over a third of the state’s veterans calling southwest Montana home, according to recent data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

“Veterans are real-life heroes in our community,” said team captain Bethany Judd, a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom. “They answered the call to service and sacrificed so much to protect our rights as Americans. It was an honor to help raise funds to support our local veterans and their families.”

Following regular scramble rules, the team members worked together to achieve the lowest individual score possible by playing their next ball from the location of the team’s collectively best-hit ball. The team had a strong finish, with team member Amanda Hauer recording the longest putt among the women. Other team members included John Flehmer and Brooks Boucher.

In addition to supporting local veterans in need, funds raised during the scramble will go toward the completion of the Veteran’s Cemetery currently being built in Bozeman. When finished, the Bozeman Veteran’s Cemetery will only be the third military cemetery located in the state of Montana.
