WealthVest Employees Organize Earth Day Cleanup

The WealthVest Team gearing up for Earth Day.

In celebration of Earth Day, employees at WealthVest, a Bozeman-based financial services wholesaling firm, spent the afternoon collecting and disposing of nearly 30 large, black trash bags full of items found along the roadways and greenways near their corporate office on Manley Road.

Employees coordinated the company event alongside National Cleanup Day and the Great Global Cleanup, a campaign to remove billions of pieces of trash from local neighborhoods, beaches, rivers, mountains, lakes, trails and parks. The 28 employees navigated cold, wet weather conditions to collect everything from cardboard and food packaging to a vacuum cleaner and a parachute.

“Despite the torrential downpour, we made sure to stress to the group that we have a responsibility to protect and maintain the world around us on rainy and sunny days alike,” said Phil Katzman, one of the event coordinators and an employee of WealthVest. “It was amazing to see all the people who battled the elements to participate in this important cause.”

According to a study by Plastic Oceans, companies produce nearly 380 million metric tons of plastic yearly. The organization estimates roughly 50% of that plastic is used just once before being thrown away, resulting in billions of plastic items ending up in rivers and alongside roadways throughout Montana and the U.S.

WealthVest’s employees are committed to reducing waste and plastic pollution, improving wildlife habitats and preventing harm to animals and humans in the Gallatin Valley, Montana and beyond, Katzman said. In addition to their Earth Day cleanup project and in-office recycling program, the company has pledged to adopt a highway and participate in bi-annual highway cleanup projects with the Montana Department of Transportation.

Businesses, groups and individuals interested in adopting and volunteering to maintain a section of a highway in Montana can get involved at https://www.mdt.mt.gov/pubinvolve/hwy-adoption.aspx.
